Abstract
217,147. Vulcan Motor & Engineering Co. (1906), Ltd., Gregg, S. J., and Frost, E. Dec. 14, 1923. Force-feed lubricating; filtering lubricant. - Lubricant is supplied to the bearings of an internal-combustion engine by a gear-wheel pump G driven by a partly - hollow spindle C operated by rightangled gearing B from a hollow camshaft A, the pump discharging through the hollow spindle C into a chamber surrounding the spindle, from which the lubricant passes through passages H into a filter chamber J. From the chamber J the oil passes through passages K to the interior of a recessed cap L enclosing the end of the camshaft A, from which it passes by a passage M to the adjacent chankshaft bearing N and through the hollow shaft A and holes A<2> to the camshaft bearings O, P. From these bearings, ducts lead to the adjacent crankshaft bearings R, S. A ball relief valve T is fitted in the side of the chamber J. According to the first Provisional Specification, the spindle C may be hollow througout its length, the oil being delivered into a chamber above the gearing.
