Abstract
342,344. Closures for bottles &c. THE BAUD, J. E., 303, N. 6th Street, Camden, New Jersey, U.S.A. Oct. 30, 1929, No. 32999. [Class 125 (iii).] A stopper 37 for a bottle &c. 30 comprises a circumferential flange 38, a sealing ring 35 in contact circumferentially with the body 36 of the stopper and with the flange 38, and a fixed air passage (S) 42 positioned between the sealing ring and the body of the stopper, forming a communication between the inside of the container and the surface of contact of the flange and the sealing ring. The underside of the flange 38 may be plain or provided with an annular bead 40. Notches 32, 39 may be provided in the rim of the flange for the introduction of an instrument by which the ring may be depressed to break the vacuum. A hand pump means is shown, Fig. 4, by which the container may be evacuated. For a large vessel the stopper shown may be fitted in the centre of the closing lid. In Fig. 6, which shows a modification, the depending wall 53 of the stopper is corrugated, the sealing surface being formed by the flange 51 and the ring 52, the latter fitting tightly into a tapered neck 49. In a further modification the depending portion of the lid may be plain, the inner surface of the ring be formed with corrugations and an annular bead may be formed on the underside of the flange.
