Abstract
338,429. Hart, H., (Mergenthaler Linotype Co.). Jan. 16, 1930. Magazines for type-bar-making machines.-In mechanism for separating the base-frames of a column of magazines, in order to facilitate the removal of the magazines, means is provided for swinging one or more of the magazines about their pivotal axes without disturbing others of the series. The separating-mechanism is of the kind described in Specification 190,293, and comprises a rock-shaft G. journaled in the lowest base-frame A<3>, and operated by a hand-lever, the shaft being connected to the top base-frame A' by togglemechanism consisting of crank-arms G<2> and links G<3>. The hand-lever can be connected to the middle base frame A<2> by a depending link or hook H, which is pivoted to the top base-frame, and is adapted to engage a stud a<1> on the middle frame. When the top magazine is in use, the link H is held in inoperative position by means such as a roller H<2> on the main frame, so that only the top base-frame is lifted when the handlever is operated. When either of the lower magazines is in use, the link H is clear of the roller H<2>, and can engage the stud a<1>, so as to lift the middle base-frame. Additional links H may be employed for a column of more than three magazines.
