Justifying matrices.-In machines having ring spacers, the square spindle that carries the spacers is resiliently mounted, so as to adjust itself automatically for any body height of line. In the form shown in Fig. 1, two space-rings b, arranged on a bar c, are held in setting position by square spindles d mounted at both ends in supports e. The supports e are mounted to slide in guides h, and are pressed forwards by springs i. When lines of unusual height are to be cast, the spacerings are pressed forwards, so as to close the mould, as shown in Fig. 4. For lines of ordinary height, the rings are forced back by the mould, as shown in Fig. 3.
