Abstract
401,245. Type-bar-making machines. INTERTYPE CORPORATION, 360, Furman Street, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A. July 28, 1933, No. 21253. Convention date, Sept. 17, 1932. [Class 100 (iii).] Escapements.- In type - barmaking machines having lift rods adapted to be shifted by swing- ing to act on the escapement rods of several magazines, there is provided a second lift rod in the form of a double rod h, which encloses the normal lift rod a and is shifted at the same time, but which acts always on the escapement rod d or b of the particular magazine c or e not in the working position, whereby similar matrices may be released from either of two magazines. The same keys are thus used for all matrices of the same font, while the same auxiliary keys act on the other magazine not in use. The lift rods a are shiftable to engage either the escapements rods b of the upper magazine c or the rods d of the lower magazine e, by means of the movable frame f ; the fork-shaped rod h is also guided in the frame f and is such that one arm of the fork always acts on that one of the rods b or d which is not engaged by the rod a. The two arms of the rod h pass through slots of the frame f which are provided on both sides of the slot for the rod a, the fork-shaped arms being bent sideways in order to pass through these slots.
