Abstract

Magazines; assembling matrices.- Relates to machines of the kind described in Specification 183,599 for handling founts of matrices differing in size and number of characters, and having two interchangeable magazineentrances. (1) The two entrances A<3>, Y', Fig 2, are arranged in inverted relation to each other, and are fastened together back to back, so as to form a reversible structure, which is pivotally mounted by means of trunnions D<2> in a pivoted frame E<1>. The frame E<1> is normally held against a stop O<9> by a spring E<5> connected to an arm E<4> on the frame, and can be rooked, to disengage the entrance from the magazine A<2> in use, by means of a hand-lever J and a link J<1>. One of the trunnions D' carries a block D<4> provided with yielding studs D', D<6>, and with a yielding detent, which can engage recesses in the frame E<1>. A spring latch F, which can be released by means of a pin F<2>, is adapted to engage notches D<8> in the ends of the block D<4>. When the frame E<1> has been rocked away from the magazines, the entrances may be reversed by hand, but this is preferably effected automatically by fixed camplates 0<3>, 0<4>, which co-operate with the studs D<5>, D<6>, and the latch-releasing pin F<2>. (2) To enable the assembler-entrance to be adapted to magazines having different numbers of channels, the upper parts B<3>, Fig. 12, of the matrix-guides B<4> are pivotally mounted, so as to form adjustable switch-like portions. The members B<3> are carried by pivot studs B<5> having arms projecting upwards or downwards into notches in a pair of shift-bars B<7>, B<8>. The shift-bars are operated by a nut B<12> and a screw which is turned by means of a hand-crank B<15>. The notches in the shift-bars are of varying width, in order to move the switch-members different distances, and notched keeper-plates G, G<1> are provided to determine the positions of the switch-members.
