[Class 100 (iii).] Escapements.- In machines having a number of magazines pivotally mounted at their upper ends, means are provided for adjusting the position of the escapement actuating - levers, in order to compensate for the varying positions occupied by the escapement actuating - slides when different magazines are in operative position. The escapements C of each magazine are operated through their actuating- slides C<1> by a single series of levers D, which are centrally pivoted and are connected at their lower ends by angle-levers E to the escapement-reeds F. When the lower magazine is in operative position, its escapement actuating-slides C<1> occupy a slightly more forward position than do those of the upper magazine, so that the upper ends of the levers D must be given a corresponding forward movement. For this purpose, the levers D are mounted in a rocking frame H, pivotally mounted at the point at which the lever D engages the,levers E, so that movement of the frame does not alter the extent of movement of the levers D. When the upper magazine is in use, the frame H is maintained in its rearward position by engagement of the lower magazine with an arm H<2> on the frame. When the lower magazine is brought into use, the arm H<2> is released, and the frame H is rocked forwards against a stop H<4> by its weight or by a spring.
