Abstract
17,770. Dodge, N. Dec. 16, 1913, [Convention date]. Assembling matrices. - Machines provided with matrix-reversing mechanism are adapted for use with matrices having characters of different sizes on their opposite edges, by causing the actuating-device for the reversing- mechanism simultaneously to operate means for adjusting the position at which the matrix line is presented to the casting-mechanism. The reversing- mechanism is of any suitable kind, for example a device A provided with a straight and a rifled channel as described in Specification 7884/07. This device is normally held upwards by a spring A<2> to bring the straight channel into operative position, but may be depressed to bring the rifled channel into operative position, by means of a finger-key B attached to a link C, which depresses a pivoted arm D bearing on a pin A<10> on the device A. The actuation of the key B also effects the arrest of the first elevator at a higher level than usual, by interposing a stop G between the vice top F and the usual screw E<1> on the first elevator, a connected stop G' being simultaneously positioned over the vice automatic stop-rod. These stops are carried by a spring- returned slide H connected by an elbow-lever J, link K, and lever L, to a slide M through which the key-lever B projects. A notch B<1> is provided in the framework to hold the key depressed. Specification 14,582/90 also is referred to.
