Distributing matrices; magazines.-Relates to machines of the kind having interchangeable magazine-entrances and distributor-bars for handling matrix founts which differ in the size and number of their characters, and particularly to the arrangement described in Specification 230,731, wherein the magazine-entrances are arranged back to back in inverted relation, and are rotatably mounted, so as to be reversible for interchange. According to the invention, the distributor-bars are operatively connected to the hand-lever employed for rotating the entrances, so as to be interchanged simultaneously therewith. The two distributor-bars B<1>, C<1> are pivotally mounted by means of bracket-plates on the ends of the two upper conveying-serews H, so that either bar may be rocked into operative position. Each bar is connected by a curved link J<1> to a sliding bar J, which is connected by lever-arms K<1>, K<2> to a link K<3>, guided in a bracket 0', and having a stud k at its lower end. The link K<3> can be operated from the hand-lever G which serves for rocking the magazine-entrance frame E. For this purpose, a latch-bar, sliding on the hand-lever, is provided with a hook G' for engaging the stud k on the link K<3>, and with a pin G<5>, which can be grasped simultaneously with the handle G<6> of the hand-lever. Indicator plates, bearing indicators corresponding to the different founts, are secured to the top and one side of the distributor-bar C<1>, to show which bar is in use. The magazine-entrances are provided with a similar indicating-device in the form of a vertically sliding plate P<5>, bearing indicating- numbers, which are displayed through an aperture. The plate P<5> is operated by a spring- controlled rod P<1> and a stud on one side of the rotatable block D<2> that carries the entrances. Means are provided for preventing the accidental unlocking of the entrances when the frame E is swung downwards for inspection of the magazines. This comprises a bail R, hinged to the frame E, and having a depending arm R' provided with a stud R<5>. When the bail R is depressed at the same time that the frame E is rocked, the stud R<5> engages a recess O<4> in a fixed bracket O<3>, so as to arrest the frame E before the rotatable block D<2> is unlatched.
