Abstract
336,705. Hills, H. G. Aug. 10, 1929. Exhaust silencers.-Gases enter at d an annular space f<1> formed between an outer cylindrical casing a and an inner vessel f the ends of which near the inlet are conical. The wall of the inner vessel is perforated for about one-half its length near the inlet end, and a perforated cone g is provided near the outlet end e. The area of the annular passage f<1> is not, and the area of the perforations in cone g are, less than the area of the inlet d. The vessel f is not traversed by the gases, but serves as a space into which the gases at their highest pressure can expand. In a modification the outlet end of vessel f is flat, and the gas outlet is an annular passage formed between the flared end of casing a and a conical baffle.
