Abstract

The catalyst container has a cylindrical outer shell with conical ends with an inlet pipe and an outlet. The inner end of the inlet pipe fits in the end of a cone made of perforated metal. This inner cone is surrounded by an outer perforated cone and the annulus formed between the cones is closed at the ends by end caps. A hole provided with a threaded plug enables the annular space (9) to be filled with the catalyst which is in the form of grains. Exhaust gases enter through the inlet and pass through the catalyst in the annulus and leave through an annular outlet to the outlet. The generators of the end caps are inclined at 15 to 75 deg., typically 30 to 60 deg., to the inlet flow.
