Electric and magnetic.-The brake segments 9 carry pieces 10 of nickel-copper or other alloy of which the permeability varies with temperature, thus forming a magnetic shunt with a central gap through which the spindle can be removed. The internal dimensions of the magnet 9 are sufficient to allow the disc 7 to pass through them, so that the rotor can be removed without removing the magnets.
