Abstract

527,539. Supply meters. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. April 14, 1939, No. 11354. Convention date, April 28, 1938. [Class 37] A magnetic shunt for an induction meter comprises a plurality of parallel magnetic elements which are magnetically insulated from each other and from the pole faces and are designed to saturate at different flux values, the element that saturates first being nearest to the axis of the armature. As shown, the magnetic shunt comprises two or more parallel elements 12, 15, the element 12 which is nearest the axis of the disc 6 being designed to saturate first. The shunt element portions may be arranged to saturate progressively in a gradually enlarging section as the magnetic flux increases, this being achieved by extensions 10 of the poles 11 by-passing the shunt to a limited extent. A spacer 13 of non-magnetic material separates the shunt elements from the poles. To fix the shunt elements 12, 15 to the spacer 13 rivets 18 may be used or the elements may be in one piece with tie 16 as shown in Fig. 5. In the latter case the elements may be fixed to the spacer by tabs 20 and, if required, a rivet 19. Notches 21 may be provided in the spacer 13 to receive the tabs 20.
