Abstract
387,160. Alternating-current induction motors. LANDIS & GYR AKT.-GES., 1, Hofstrasse, Zug, Switzerland. March 14, 1932, No. 7510. Convention date, March 18, 1931. [Class 35.] In a small induction motor, particularly one employed instead of clockwork in a multiple tariff meter, the straight-line extension of the shaft passes through the centre of the stator coil parallel to one of the bounding surfaces thereof, each pole of the stator magnet is formed of one piece of ferromagnetic material secured to the core of the coil, and one or each pole is divided at its free end or ends to form a number of divisions at least one of which carries a shading ring. In the form shown in Fig. 1, sheet-iron members 4, 6 are secured to the ends of a solid magnet core 2. The free ends of these members are divided into two parts, carrying polepieces 9, 14. One part of each pole is provided with a shading ring 15. The rotor disc 20 rotates in the gap between the polepieces 9, 14, the shaft 19 being mounted in bearings in the yoke 6 and in a brass piece 24. A brass distancepiece 16 maintains the correct size of air gap. In a modification, Fig. 3, the lower end of a pot magnet core 2 carries a sheet-iron member 28 with divided ends, shading rings 37, 38 being mounted on one division of each end. The rotor 39 is in the form of a bell and is mounted in bearings in a hole 40 of the iron core and in a brass bridge piece 43. Figs. 5 and 6 show a squirrel-cage type of motor with each pole divided into four sections and shading rings 55 embracing three subdivisions of each. The rotor 66 is journaled in brass plates 62, 63 secured to the poles.
