Electric and magnetic.-The permanent brake magnets acting on the conducting disc of an electric supply meter are hinged to the main frame of the meter so as to enable them to be swung clear of the disc to permit removal of the meter mechanism. In another construction, shown in Fig. 18, the braking system comprises two U-shaped permanent magnets 48 disposed vertically outside the cylindrical surface of a bell-shaped rotor 44. the magnetic circuit being completed by soft iron pieces within the bell. This construction permits removal of the rotor from above without disturbing the magnets.
