Abstract

208,887. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Nov. 30, 1922. Electric and magnetic brakes.-A brake magnet for electric meters &c. comprises two or more magnet sections secured together to form two magnetic circuits, each containing one air-gap in which the co-operating disc rotates, one of the sections in each circuit constituting a pole-piece and being removable. In one construction, two magnet sections 1, 2 are mounted together on the support 4 by screws 6, a grooved strap 5 embracing both sections. A bead 9 on the section 1 engages the groove in the strap so that when it is desired to replace the section 2 by another of different dimensions or magnetic properties, the strap can be slid laterally to disengage the sections. The air-gap may be adjusted by packing shims between the surfaces 3. In another construction. two bar magnats are employed instead of the magnet section 2, each bar magnet forming polepieces adjacent to the poles of the main section. The bar magnets may be adjustable, and are attached to the main section by screws so that they can be readily exchanged for others having different characteristics.
