532,116. Magnetic sound recording and reproducing. CONTRAVES AKT.-GES. July 4, 1939, No. 19472. Convention date, March 13. [Class 40 (ii)] In apparatus for magnetically recording and reproducing sound or the like on and from steel bands, wires and the like, the magnetic poles have flat, thin, long magnetic extensions GO, DF parallel to and uniformly spaced from the steel band or wire, this producing a slow uniform drop of magnetic potential along the extensions and ensuring good quality recording and reproduction. The ends of the extensions may be bridged by a yoke 4 of good magnetic conductivity. The extensions may vary gradually in cross-section ; or, the extensions may each have an oblique slot 5 filled with a material of very high magnetic resistance such as brass.
