Abstract

Receiving sets, construction of; aerials; crystal detectors.-Sets of the kind contained more or less within the casing of the telephones are provided with a ring-shaped inductance and condenser arranged round the telephone magnet of an ear-piece or one round each magnet of two earpieces. The inductance 10 is wound on a former 12 comprising a series of slots 11, Fig. 3 and is thus made up of a number of narrow coils in series. Tappings are led through transverse slots 16 to contact studs 17, Fig. 1. The condenser is made up of a length of twin wire wound on a bobbin. A crystal detector is suspended by the telephone cords and comprises two vulcanite discs spaced apart by a glass cylinder. Aerial and earth connections are made by clips 52, 53 and extra telephones may be connected at 54. The box, Fig. 7, for housing the set is provided in one face with a coil 61 to act as a frame aerial. The telephone receivers may have adjustable magnets. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 6, both condenser and inductance are contained in a single ear-piece, and a different type of detector 85, 86 is provided within the handle 83. According to the Provisional Specification, the telephone magnets are of cobalt steel and the coil is enclosed in an iron cylinder.
