Abstract
217,192. Siemens & Halske Akt.-Ges. June 8, 1923, [Convention date]. Magnetic instruments.-A non-conducting and non-magnetic diaphragm is formed with a rib through which the telephone currents pass. The diaphragm may be of mica and the rib of aluminium. The rib 2 may be continuous and serpentine, Fig. 2, successive portions being arranged between poles 5 of electromagnets of alternate polarity. A series of single aluminium strips 12 - - 17, Fig. 3, may be used, the ribs 12, 13, 14 being traversed by current in one direction and the ribs 15, 16, 17 by current in the opposite direction. The pole of the electromagnet 19 in the centre is of opposite sense to those of electromagnets 18, 20. Pole-pieces 21, 23, 24 and magnetic bridges 22, 25 are arranged between the ribs and are secured to the frame 27, 28 carrying the diaphragm. The cores of all three electromagnets are fitted in a common yoke 50. The diaphragm may be split up into separate bands each carrying a single rib and, in a modification, Fig. 6, these bands 31, 32, 33 are arranged one above the other, the sound passing outwards through slots 42, 43, 44. Each two adjacent diaphragms may be arranged to face one another so that the sound will proceed from the same slot.
