Loud-speakers; magnetic instruments. - An electromagnetic movement for a loud-speaker comprises the combination of a speech coil 34, a permanent magnet 9, a pole-piece 14 carried by one pole of the magnet and supporting the speech coil, a pole shoe 39 passing through the polepiece and speech coil. a pole-piece 18 carried by the other pole of the magnet and a polarized armature 21 carried by the second pole-piece. The pole shoe 39 is formed with intersecting slots to reduce eddy currents and has a screwed portion 40 engaging a tapped hole in the pole-piece 14 so that the air gap can be adjusted. To form a friction-tight fit, the pole-piece is slotted through the tapped hole, as shown in Fig. 11, and the two fingers thus produced are squeezed together. As shown, the armature comprises a number of leaves 21 spaced apart at both ends by iron inserts. The armature is connected to a conical diaphragm by a rod 26.
