Abstract

Magnetic instruments. - An electromagnetic movement for a loud-speaker has an armature comprising a number of laminations spaced apart by iron inserts. As shown the movement comprises a permanent magnet 9, a polarized reed 21, and a speech coil 34 surrounding an adjustable pole-shoe 39. The reed comprises four steel leaves 21, a soft iron element 24 at the free end, and iron spacing washers 22, 23 at both ends. The reed is attached to a pole-piece 18 of the magnet by a bolt 20, and the free end is connected to the centre of a large conical diaphragm by a rod 26. To the other end of the magnet is attached a bracket-like pole-shoe 14 having a tapped hole in which is screwed a transverse pole-piece 39 passing through the speech coil. The pole-shoe is slotted through the tapped hole and the two fingers thus produced are squeezed together to give a frictional grip on the tapped portion of the polepiece. The end of the pole-piece is formed with intersecting slots to reduce eddy currents. Specifications 263,477, 263,478, and 263,481 are referred to.
