Abstract

Magnetic instruments. - The armature is rigidly mounted relative to the magnet system so as to be incapable of free vibration or relative movement. A magnet M has pole pieces 1, 2 fitted with inwardly projecting members 3 - - 6, having coils C mounted thereon. The armature A has enlarged tapered ends, Fig. 4, and is rigidly attached to a block B by bar A<1>. A non- magnetic yoke Y, to which B is screwed at 14, is attached to the pole pieces 1, 2. The waves generated in the armature A by variations in the magnetic flux at its ends are transmitted to diaphragm D by rod 16. The leads L to coils C are taken from terminals 12 mounted on an insulating member 11 secured to one of the pole pieces. The pole-pieces, armature and yoke form a separate unit and can be removed from the magnet M as a unit. The varying flux at each end of the magnet can augment the existing flux at both ends, or can augment it at onei end and diminish it at the other end. Specification 257,599 is referred to.
