Abstract

243,431. Midgley, A. H. Aug. 26, 1924. Magnetic instruments.-A telephone receiver, more particularly of the loud-speaker type, has its laminated pole pieces c secured against the inner ends of yoke pieces n, n<1>, secured by bolts o, o<1> between bar magnets m, by means of wedgemembers 5, 6 drawn together by a screw 7 and coacting with wedge surfaces 3, 4 on the lower ends of the pole piece. If desired-, the outer surfaces of the pole pieces may also be provided with similar wedge surfaces, the inner edges of the yoke pieces being shaped to correspond. The pole pieces c can be adjusted with respect to the diaphragm b by the means described in Specification 243,432, which consists in pivotally mounting the magnet structure at one end about the bolt o and providing the yoke piece n<1> at the other end with a prolongation s adapted to be acted on by an adjusting screw w against the action of a spring t. The laminae forming each pole piece c may be bound around the bottom and sides by a non-magnetic strip 8, Fig. 4, which is shouldered at 9 to support the spool of the coil 2 and has its ends bent over at 10 to engage the upper end of the spool.
