Abstract

Magnetic instruments.-In a telephone receiver, the polepieces 7, Figs. 2 and 3, tor permanent magnets of ring or horse-shoe type, are formed from blanks each comprising a narrow portion 8 and a lateral enlargement 9 which forms the vertical limbs to carry the winding. The portions 8 can be bent at any angle to the vertical plane to lie against the ends of the permanent magnet 10. The pole-pieces are clamped in position by a plate 11 secured to the casing by a screw 13, the ends of the plate being flanged to press the feet 8 against the ends of the magnet. In a modification, they are secured by a bow or other spring sprung into position between the feet. The permanent magnet may be secured in position by one or more grub screws or by a split ring. The terminals to which the conductors are connected may be arranged on a strip 17 of insulating material mounted across the magnet 10 or across the feet of the pole-pieces.
