354,618. Electromagnetic sound-recording apparatus. TELEGRAPHIEPATENT-SYNDIKAT GES., 119B, Potsdamerstrasse, Berlin. Oct. 16, 1930, No. 31006. Convention date, Oct. 16, 1929. [Class 40 (ii).] A "talking head" for electromagnetic sound recording on a steel band comprises two magnets a, a<1> arranged on opposite sides of the band b at right-angles to the flat faces of the band and in a staggered position with two oppositely facing sides of the magnet polepieces in alignment. This arrangement is stated to reduce the stray magnetic field to a minimum. The windings of both magnets may be used for the sound-recording current, or each magnet may have two windings, one of which is arranged in the recording circuit and the other used for pre-magnetizing the core. As a further alternative, the winding of one magnet core may be used for the recording current and that of the other magnet for the pre-magnetizing of its core.
