Abstract

366,518. Electric brakes. FERRANTI, Ltd. and BATT, F. H., Hollinwood, Lancashire. Oct. 27, 1930, No. 32247. [Class 103 (i).] A permanent magnet for braking a rotor, such as the disc of a motor meter, is provided with a polepiece sliding longitudinally on the magnet pole so as to vary the distribution of flux in the air gap with comparatively little change in the total reluctance and flux. Such a polepiece may consist of a plate d adjusted by a screw h engaging with a nut g secured to the plate. A portion f of the plate may be struck up to form a passage for the body of the magnet a and this portion may bear on the magnet against which, it is held by a clamp i.
