496,180. Electromagnets. OLIVETTI & CO. SOC. ANON., Ing., C. April 11, 1938, No. 11110. Convention date, July 27, 1937. [Class 35] An electromagnet for operating telegraphic machines has an armature, constituting the core of the winding 1, in the form of a straight bar 2 located between the pole-pieces 9, 10 and 11, 12 of two permanent magnets 14, 13 and rigidly connected to a parallel shaft 5 pivoted so that the armature moves parallel to itself. The armature and shaft are connected by non- magnetic members 3, 4, the member 4 carrying a stop 17 movable between adjustable screws 15, 16 whereby the stroke of the armature and its position in relation to the field can be adjusted. The permanent magnets and polepieces may be mounted on a plate 18 having a rib 19 engaging a groove in a base 8, the plate being movable by a screw 20 against a spring 22, so as to balance the action of the magnets on the armature or to cause one to predominate. A light frame 25 clamped to the shaft 5 transmits the armature movements to the selector
