Abstract

536,695. Electromagnetic switches. SIEMENS ELECTRIC LAMPS & SUPPLIES, Ltd., and ASKEW, J. E. Dec. 4, 1939, No. 31380. [Class 38 (v)] Two soft iror plates 6 mounted one behind the other on blade springs 2 are similarly magnetized by the stray field across a gap 1C in an electromagnet and repel each other thereby operating contacts 1. The contacts may be mounted on the strips 2 and may normally engage each other. The switch may be mounted in a glass container 5 which may contain oil to damp vibrations. In a modification, the core of the electromagnet is divided into two parts, and the switch arranged between and operated by the field across a gap 14. In another modification, the plates 6 are part cylindrical in shape and enclose an iron core piece to concentrate the magnetic field.
