Electric and magnetic. - In an electricity meter the disc 6, acted upon by the brake magnet 7, is driven by gearing 4, 5 at a speed higher than that of the driving-disc 2 of the meter. The magnet 7 may therefore be smaller than would be necessary if it acted on the driving- disc 2. The brake disc 6 may be of a material having a temperature coefficient chosen to correct the temperature error of the meter, for example it may consist of an aluminium alloy containing copper, silicon, and iron. A number of permanent magnets 7 may be arranged to act on the disc 6. The driving-disc 2 may also be acted on by one or more permanent magnets.
