Abstract

234,425. Ferranti, S. Z. de, and Ferranti, Ltd. March 3, 1924 Olagneto - electric machines; magnets. -In electric meters, and other electrical apparatus employing permanent magnets associated with softiron pole-pieces, a magnetic transfer element is provided by means of which the magnet may be removed from its operative position without altering substantially the flux distribution in the steel. As shown in the Figure, the permanent magnets a of a meroury motor meter make close contact with softiron pole-pieces b projecting above and below the mercury bath c. The limbs d, e of the soft-iron keeper f are shaped to fit the pole-pieces, and the magnet is removed by sliding it on to the keeper. In an alternative arrangement, the extremities of the magnet may be provided with soft-iron pole-pieces and the keeper contacts with the sides of these pole-pieces.
