Abstract

Eltctromagets. - An electromagnet has four arcuate pole-pieces d - - g arranged in pairs at opposite ends and sides of a cylindrical space enclosed by the coil a, so that the gaps between them can be bridged by two armatures i, k carried on a non-magnetic piece m on a spindle n arranged in the axis of the coil. The magnetic circuit is completed by iron end-pieces c and a casing b. An arrangement of two coaxial coils with the pieces m carrying the armatures at right-angles, so that the coils oppose each other can be used for measuring resistance or impedance by passing a current through one coil proportional to the current in the circuit to be measured and through the other proportional to the voltage. By shaping the pole-pieces appropriately the relation between the tongue and the angular displacement may be varied.
