Electromagnetic current meters.-An instrument of the moving-iron type has a coil 1 enclosed in a magnetic sheath 2 and enclosing two pole-pieces 5, 6 so formed that the length of the air-gap between them changes round the circumference. Between the coil 1 and the pole-pieces 5, 6 may be arranged a non-magnetic metal bushing 4, and the bushing 4 and the sheath 2 may be slit to reduce eddy-currents. The iron 7 is a plate narrower at one end than the other and bent to a portion of a cylinder. It is carried on a spindle 9 in a cylindrical casing 17 inside the pole-pieces 5, 6. The casing 17 is secued to a sector-shaped casing 21 containing a damping vane. A sparal restoring-spring 8 is attached to the spindle 9 and casing 17.
