Abstract

328,983. Burgoine, H. W. Jan. 8, 1929. Wire strainers.-The overlapping ends of metal band straps used in binding boxes, bales, &c., after being tensioned, are fastened or sealed together by passing a channelled metal strip or sleeve around them and corrugating the channelled strip and overlapping ends of the band strap transversely. The tensioning device comprises a serrated wheel or wheels c, Figs. 1 and 3, loosely mounted on a shaft g provided with an eccentric portion g<1> journaled within a bracket l, so that when a lever h on the shaft g is pressed downwardly the wheel c is lowered and the overlapping parts of the band strap are pressed upon the serrated surface of a block d whereupon a pawl lever i is actuated to rotate a ratchet wheel m coupled to the tensicning wheel c.
