354,831. Strainers. GRAVES, W. L., 10, Boxgrove Avenue, Guildford, Surrey. May 16, 1930, No. 15065. [Class 45.] The ends of metal binding strips are tightened around a box and secured together with or without a sleeve by crimping the edges together in toggle operated jaws 14. The ends are tightened by passing them into the space 27 between a toothed plate 22a and a pair of serrated wheels 22 lowered to grip the band end against a fixed toothed plate 6 by rotating the handle 26 of an eccentric. The handle 1 with its head 5 is now oscillated so that the ratchet wheel 23 rotates along with itself the serrated wheels 22 to pull the band as taut as required. The handle 1 is then disengaged from moving with the head 5 by releasing the spring pin 19 and is then rocked about the pivot 8 in the head so that the connecting link 9 pulls togglelever 12 to close jaws 14 against the edge of the band and seal them together. A magnetic or suction &c. holder 16 may hold a sleeve around the band so that it is crimped along with the edges.
