Abstract

Wire strainers.-A portable apparatus for straining and fastening a bale band has the straining and fastening elements mounted on one or more rigid levers and arranged so as to be operable in the same vertical plane as the band. The apparatus comprises a hollow frame 1 with an anvil 6 at one end for the crimping operation and a handle portion 4 at the other end, having a slot 5 for positioning on the bale band. A hand lever 8, pivoted on the frame, serves first to strain the band and secondly to fasten its ends, the band being held after straining, by a lever 10. The crimping lever may be distinct from the straining lever and pivoted thereto. In a further modification, the frame is provided with a handle 1<b>, Fig. 7 having the straining lever 8<b> and the crimping tool 9<a> pivoted on the frame, one on each side of the handle.
