429,883. Strapping bales. BOABANDS, Ltd., 42, Wolfington Road, West Norwood, London.-(Hoffmann, E.; 233, Maarweg, Braunsfeld, Cologne, Germany) Nov. 21, 1934, No. 33517. [Class 45] [See also Group XVII] A hand-operated straining device for use with a fastening clip 4 comprises a beak 2 which bears against one end of the clip and is provided with a guide slot for the tie, and a reel 1 with ratchet wheel 5 which is driven by a pawl 7 on the lever 6 and is held relatively to the lever 8 carrying the beak 2 by a pawl 9. The strap may be severed after tightening by a knife 10 and the clip may be fastened down by a hammer head 11. The beak 2 and the reel 1 are formed with open slots for placing in position on the strap. The strainer is turned back about the end of the clip to bend the tie as at 3b, Fig. 7, after tightening. The clip, Figs. 4, 7, comprises a plate 4b with wings 4c folded over to receive the overlapping ends of the strap before tightening and with vertical wings 4a, Fig. 4, which are bent down as shown in Fig. 7 to secure the strap after tightening. The end of the clip is recessed at 13, and the part 4b may be deformed as at 15 to form a slot for the dead end of the strap.
