STRAP STRETCHING AND FASTENING TOOL Filed Oct. 15, 1927 Patented June 23, 1931 UNITED STATES JOSEF BAYER, F BARMEN, GERMANY STRAP STRETCHING AND FASTENING- TOOL Application filed October 15, 1927, Serial No. 226,476, and in Germany April 20, 1927.
This invention relates to a bale-tie fastener of the kind described in thespecification of Patent No. 1,517,903`wherein the bale band is strained 'by means of a radially displaceable serrated Wheel and wherein the sealing of the band ends is effected by means of a crimping tool, the latter and a lever which operates the straining wheel by means of a pawl and ratchet mechanism, being pivoted to a supporting frame.
rl`he object of the invention is to produce a device of very simple construction, and the invention consists in providing the supporting frame with a rearward extension serving as a handle, the straining lever being arranged under said handle and the sealing tool in front of it, the lever and tool being operable in the vertical plane of the extension.
The invention is illustratedin the accompanying drawing which represents a side' view showing the Vfastener in operation.
The bale-tie fastener comprises a supporting frame b provided with a base plate c, with a foot n, and with a rearward extension s serving as a handle. The oot n, has a groove n.1- whereby the device is positioned on the steel or like band to be strained and fastened. The overlapping band ends are carried over the base plate Ic which is provided with a serrated steel anvil Z. Over the latter a straining Wheel is arranged which, as described in the specification of Patent No. 1,517,903, is adapted to be lowered for a5 pressing the band ends to the anvil andto be rotated for sliding the` upper end over the lower one which is retained by the anvil. The lever for rotating the straining wheel is according to the invention arranged under the handle s and pivoted Aat v to the frame b. A pawl pivotedat f to the lever co-operates with a ratchet wheel connected to the straining wheel for rotating the latter.
tool is pivoted at u2 to the upper front portion of the frame b. The crimping is effeet-ed in front of the forward projection kl of the base plate, the crimping tool being frame in front of the extension, said lever and sealing tool vbeing movable in the vertical plane of the extension.
` JOSEF BAYER.
The tie is sealed by crimping the overlapping band ends. This is effected by means of a crimping tool comprising a pair of jaws g which are pivotally mounted between ftwo plates t and t1 and operated by means of a pair ofl shear levers r. The plate t1 is provided with lugsu1 whereby the crimping
