Abstract
324,103. Miller, T. F. Oct. 18, 1928. Pneumatic conveyers.-Material is admitted to a pneumatic conveyer through a series of chambers A, B, C provided with valves D, E and a series of chambers L, N containing means for aerating it. A pipe p containing a valve F connects the chambers B, C and communicates with the atmosphere through a pipe I. The valves D, E, F are actuated by rotary cams V1, V2, V3 through connecting rods W1, W2, W3 &c. When the valve D opens, material falls into the chamber B which is then in communication with the atmosphere. After the closure of the valve D, the valve F moves to close the pipe p and put the chambers B, C in communication. After this operation the valve E opens and the material passes into the chamber C. The valve E then closes, and the valve F moves to put the chamber B in communication with the atmosphere. The -surface of the valve D is kept free of material on returning to its. seating by a ring H which descends with the valve until it is caught by the projections J. A screw K transfers the material from the chamber C to a chamber L in which it is mixed by paddles P with compressed air admitted by the pipe A. On leaving the chamber L the material passes through the chamber M to a chamber N through which it is propelled by paddles 0 and delivered to a chamber R. Compressed air admitted to the chamber R through a ring of apertures U drives the material through the pipe line Z. In a modification, Fig. 4, the screw K and paddles P are dispensed with, and the flow of material is regulated by adjustable hinged dampers K<1>.
