Gas fires; screens.-A portable gas fire for use in front of a grate, and capable of conversion into a screen, comprises a substantially flat apertured front plate 1, a heating-unit and a canopy arranged behind it, and a removable door 16 which closes the aperture in the front plate when the stove is to be used as a screen. The construction shown comprises a back plate 2 having side members 3 bolted to the front plate, and a heating unit arranged between the plates 1 and 2 and comprising a burner 6, fire-brick back 11, and radiants 12. A fuel-plate carries the parts of the heating-unit, and itself rests on projections 13 on the front and back plates. A " canopy " 20 secured to the rear of the front plate forms the upper part of the outlet flue, being bolted to the lower part 19 which is formed by the top of the back plate 3. Feet 23 are formed at the lower ends of the front and rear plates and support the stove with the front plate inclined slightly rearwardly.
