Abstract

210,127. Holey, W. H., Reaney, C. T., and Brackenbury, A. G. Oct. 17, 1922. Combined solid-fuel and gas or electric stoves; open fireplaces; blowers; lighting fires. -A portable self-contained stove comprises a casing having a back which is closed with the exception of a flue connection 25 and containing a solid-fuel grate 2, the front of the casing consisting of hinged or sliding doors 3 on which are mounted gas or electric heating elements. In the construction shown, each hinged door carries radiants 4 which are heated by a burner 6 arranged in the hollow bottom of the door and supplied with gas from a nipple 8 concentric with a flange 11 which forms the lower pivot of the door. Solid fuel may be ignited by a tubular burner 17 arranged beneath the front of the well grate 2, which comprises an inverted channel member 15 containing fireclay 16. The doors 3 may entirely close the grate front and serve as blowers during lighting-up; pockets may be provided at the sides of the stove to receive them in their out-of-use position. The stove is provided with a sliding ashpan 20 and with a canopy 14 extending over the gas fire. A gas-ring 26 may be arranged beneath an aperture in a second canopy 27. For electric heating, the doors 3 may carry resistances, the lighting burner 17 being also replaced by suitable resistances.
