Abstract

264,356. Guy, G. W., and Jarl, R. E. March 9, 1926. Electric stoves. - A stove comprises a source of heat with an associated reflector, together with an apparent source of heat simulating a coal fire, independent of the actual source and including a light reflector, the parts being arranged to provide for a circulation of air for cooling both the heat and light reflectors. The stove shown comprises an imitation fire consisting of a pair of electric light bulbs 36 mounted on a base plate 32, which is preferably slotted in order that the light shining through may give an effect similar to that of a, coal fire supported on a barred grate. A coarsemeshed screen 40 carrying pieces of coloured glass or other material simulating a coal fire, extends up behind the grate bars and over the lamps, each of which is provided with a flickerdevice consisting of a fan 46 rotated by the current of hot air and havind downward projections 47 on some, but not all; of the blades. A curved reflector 48 is arranged behind the lamps, the upper edge of which is attached to the lower edge of an upper reflector 52, preferably of polished copper. The actual source of heat comprises three detachable heating-units 54 mounted in front of the latter reflector, at the centre and. sides of the stove, and controlled by a switch which allows either the centre unit, both the side units, or all three to be used. Both the reflectors 52 are spaced from the rear panel 26, air passing up behind and cooling them, and finally being delivered over the curved top 68 of the reflector and beneath the hood 84 of the stove into the room. The heat reflector shown in Fig. 3 directs a large part of the heat down on to the imitation fuel; Fig. 5 shows a reflector directing the heat substantially forwardly, the part 74 reflecting the heat back on the part 76, which directs it outwardly. Fig. 6 shows a modified form of both the heat and light reflectors, the former reflecting the heat partly outwards and partly downwards, whilst the light reflector 50 locates the apparent centre of the fire lower and farther forward than is done by the reflector 48 shown in Fig. 3. Preferably, as in the forms shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the heat reflector shields the light reflector from direct radiation from the source of heat.
