[Classes 39 (iii) and 126] An electric fire comprises a frame a mounted on legs b and enclosing a refractory base c shaped to resemble a bed of ash and the fireclay sides and back of a solid fuel grate, a hammered metal reflector p mounted at the rear of the base, one or more wire resistances or like heating elements h having metal strips j at their ends adapted to project through holes d in the base c to engage sockets or clips f forming electric connections; and removable pieces m of imitation fuel fitting over resilient supports o to conceal the elements h and give the appearance of a glowing fire. The fuel m may be formed with slits or apertures n to allow the escape of light. The supports o may be secured to the clips k carrying the strips j., A metal shield q at the back of the reflector p is formed with perforations r to allow the circulation of air. If desired the reflector p may be omitted or lamps may be provided to illuminate the fuel when little heat is required.
