[Class 126] An imitation solidfuel fire comprises a plurality of imitation fuel elements made wholly or partially of heat-resisting glass such as is sold under the Registered Trade Marks " Pyrex " or "Phoenix " having heating means associated therewith and so spaced or apertured as to permit light to issue from the interior of one or more elements on to the exterior of other elements. The heating means may be electric resistance elements or gas or oil burners, and separate gas, oil, or electric illuminating means may. be provided to enhance the appearance of glowing fuel. The Figure shows an imitation fire comprising a base 1 carrying electric resistance heating elements 9 and tubular illuminating lamps 12 arranged below an imitation fire-bed 6 of heat-resisting glass. A number of irregularly surfaced fuel elements 7 of heat-resisting glass are secured overlapping one another above the fire-bed by wires 8 attached to the base 1. A reflector 15 and spinner 16 at the back of the fire produce a flickering effect. The elements 9 are also fitted with reflectors 11. The fuel elements may be coloured or treated to simulate fuel or logs in a burnt, unburnt, or partially burnt condition, and may be made in two or more pieces or formed integrally with the fire-bed. The fire-bed 6 may alternatively be made of fire-clay and be formed with apertures having heat-resisting glass insets through which the heating elements and lamps project. Colour filters or coloured lamps may be used to obtain desirable effects.
