[Class 126] A hollow, non-frangible partly - transparent shell A forming the imitation fire panel is placed in a front cold chamber, while a rear chamber B<1> contains heating means and means for illuminating the shell. The shell A is a moulded body representing a fire built up from blocks of coal and is so coloured as to have black (coal) parts, grey parts, and transparent red and yellow parts to give the red hot effect. The shell is made from treated fabric and/or treated paper, or from alternate layers of cellusosic material and colloid. Examples of each of these methods are described in detail. The illuminant and heating means may be gas, oil, alcohol or an electric incandescent bulb, separate or combined. Fig. 7 shows a gas burner b and a gas heater b6. The light is transmitted by mirrors upwardly through the shell, and it may be, also through a lower transparent part of the front partition b<1>. Some of the light may be reflected from the upper part of the partition b<1>, and, as shown in Fig. 7, some may be allowed to escape downwardly and laterally to simulate a hearth glow. A flue b<4> at the rear affords inlet of air to be heated and distributed from the top of the heat chamber. A flicker device may be included.
