Abstract
554,256. Imitation fuel. BERRY, G. J. Jan. 22, 1942, No. 944. [Class 126] Imitation fuel for electric fires consists a body 1 having a foundation of cardboard, sheet metal or the like formed with upstanding portions 6, 7 to represent unburnt coal, burning coal and resting on an ash bed and a body 4 also consisting of cardboard formed with an opaque upper part to represent unburnt coal and with sides of bright wire gauze heavily coated with a cellulose lacquer, the lower edges of the sides being of irregular shape so as to provide openings 12 through which part of the ash bed which would otherwise be hidden is exposed to view. A lamp fitted with a spinner and arranged below the body 4 illuminates the ash bed and most of the front surfaces of the portions 6, 7, directly and the parts visible through the openings 12 simulate the glowing heat of the fire. The'top of the body 4 may be slit and filled in with a doped gauze trough 14 to give the appearance of a glowing crack such as seen in burning coal. Glass granule, micaflakes, sand &c. may be embedded in the cellulose lacquer coating the translucent parts of the fuel. The back skirt of the body 4 may be irregular in outline to break up the light striking an imitation firebrick back. The flicker effect of the lamp may be enhanced by fitting the spinner with a painted celluloid disc or blacking out part of the gaps between its vanes. Specifications 323,190, [Class 126], 372,540 and 421,057 are referred to.
