Clutches, arrangements of. - In order to facilitate the operation of change-speed gearing upon a vehicle, a clutch is arranged upon the end of the cardan shaft b the normal positive engagement of which can be changed to frictional engagement by applying thrust to a collar m against a spring q. A sleeve a which slides on splines on the end of the shaft b carries a claw clutch member e and a coned friction member c. An outer sleeve f carries a claw clutch member h, a female friction cone c<1>, and lugs j forming part of the usual universal joint. During normal running, the claw members e, h are engaged and a control lever which engages collar m is not under constraint.
