316,686. Harvey, A. May 8, 1928. Blocks acting on drums.-The disc 4 carrying the bearings 4<a> for the brake cam spindle 5 and the brake block fulcrum 7 is adapted to be screwed on the collar 9 of the axle 10 of a motor road vehicle &c. to facilitate assembly particularly where the axle pin 11 on which the wheel is mounted is inclined downwardly. The end of the screwed part adjacent the axle 10 is increased in diameter to provide a shoulder against which the boss 4b of the disc 4 is screwed home. The screw threads at each end of the axle are opposite handed and arranged so that the discs tend to be screwed on through their connection with the wheels. A screw pin may be passed through the boss 4<b> into the screwed collar 9. In a modified form the bearings 4a are mounted in radial and diametrically opposed arms mounted on the boss 4b. The disc 4 may be provided with an annular recess to receive a washer 4<d> of leather or other resilient material against which the hub 12 can impinge if the wheel is subject to lateral motion.
