Abstract

168,724. Masters, L. M. June 30, 1920. Hubs. - In a vehicle axle of the kind provided with a removable collar G, Fig. 1, near its end to engage in a recess in the inner end of the wheel bush D, the wheel is secured in position by an annular plate E secured directly to the wheel hub C and loosely surrounding the axle A on the inner side of the collar. As shown, the collar G is internally threaded to screw upon a threaded portion H of the axle end B where it is held in position by jamming against a slight shoulder b on the axle, and the plate E is secured by bolts F to the hub C. In a modification, the collar G is made in one with a sleeve J, Fig. 2. which fits over the full length of the axle end B and screws thereon, thus providing a renewable lining to the axle bearing. The collar may be provided with means, such as holes g, to be engaged by appropriate tools for screwing purposes.
