Abstract

535,191. Disc brakes. TOMLINSON, A. V. (Aikman, B. S.). Sept. 30, 1939, No. 26923. [Class 103 (i)] A housing 25 for the braking elements of a disc brake for railway trucks is supported on the outer side of the wheel 15 by an annular portion 26 bearing by means of a resilient bushing 27 on a hub 28 projecting from a support member 29, which encircles the part 17 of the wheel axle 13 and is secured to the journal box 12. The rotary elements 35 are carried by a cylindrical part 23 of a rotor 20 rigidly and removably secured to the taper part 18 of the wheel axle 13 and are formed with a groove 53 through which air is caused to flow by means of scoops 50 when the vehicle is in motion. The rotary elements 35 and the non-rotary elements 36, which are secured in the housing 25, are pressed into contact to effect braking by a nuid-preasure actuated piston 58 provided with return spring pistons 67.
