Abstract

305,115. Dexter, A. D. Nov. 16, 1927. Spray-carburettors. - The carburettor comprises an induction pipe portion 13, a choke tube 15 therein, an iris diaphragm 16 actuated by an arm 17 attached to a sleeve 18, and a fuel nozzle 12 extending laterally through the choke tube with its axis inclined to the axis of said tube and directed towards the diaphragm, its outlet terminating substantially on said axis at the restricted portion of the choke tube. An additional sleeve 18<1> may be provided, the leaves of the diaphragm being pivoted to both sleeves, so that by actuating the arm of one or other of the sleeves the diaphragm may be either opened or closed bv movement of the arm in the same direction. While one sleeve is being actuated the other may be held against rotation by a screw. This provision facilitates the connecting up of the carburettor to its actuating mechanism. An additional diaphragm may be provided on the airinlet side of the nozzle 12. Fuel is fed to this nozzle from a float chamber 1 through a conduit 9, Fig. 3, and another conduit 10 containing a filter 11 which may be removed through an aperture closed by a screw 10'. A gauze filter 14 is provided in the air inlet.
